About Katie

Update: 6/23/2013

Today I am a 4 year survivor! I am so happy to have the chance to see my girls, Haleigh (8) and Hannah (5) grow into the beautiful young girls that they are. Four years ago I didn’t know how much time I had on this earth but I swore that I wasn’t going to leave anytime soon. Right now I loving watching the girls grow and getting ready to send my baby to Kindergarten.

Tim, is still my rock! Let’s be honest, the worries about cancer NEVER go away. He is my best friend and I couldn’t do half the stuff we do without him. Ten years of marriage, 2 girls and a cancer diagnosis has rocked our world but we couldn’t be happier where we are and who we have become. This mission to help other families is our passion and we love all the friends and new family we have through this journey.

Katie’s Story

On May 6th 2009, we got news that was hard to handle. After all, I had just turned 30 in March and just had a baby a year ago. This shouldn’t be happening to me. I was diagnosed with Stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. In other words, I have breast cancer. I went through several rounds of chemotherapy, radiation and hormone treatment. One year later I can now say I am CANCER FREE!

My name is Katie Mangan. I am a mother of 2 beautiful girls, Haleigh (5) and Hannah (2), a wife to the most wonderful husband, Tim, a daughter, a sister, an aunt and a Breast Cancer Survivor.

Being diagnosed at 30 with NO family history of Breast Cancer or any cancer was very hard to take. I have a very large family (18 aunts/uncles, 40 some cousins) and I am the first to be diagnosed with this disease. Our friends wanted to find a way to help us and in the process Katie’s Crusaders were born. Tim & I were very excited to watch & help with last year’s 5k run/walk come together. This year we are even more excited to turn Katie’s Crusaders into a Non-Profit group and “Pay forward” what was done for us.

Fighting for your life is hard enough; you shouldn’t have to fight to pay your bills too. I am VERY proud to say I am a 1 year cancer survivor & can’t wait to help families fighting this disease.
